Words that change everything!

Words.  Life-infusing, heart-altering sounds exhaled.  They have the power to change who we are, and who we will become in our lives.  Spoken with love and grace, words can drive us towards amazing heights; spoken in haste and hostility, and they can ruin us.  Words carry immense weight and power, yet are like the wind.  We’re unable to grab hold of and take them back once spoken.

power of the tongue

All of creation began with 4 simple words.

LET THERE BE LIGHT.

The darkness fled at the speed of light, as the brilliance burst forth in awesome wonder! His Words were uttered with power and all of creation came into existence.

Let there be light

Adam and Eve were the first to learn of the death-poison words can hold.

“DID GOD REALLY SAY THAT? … YOU WILL CERTAINLY NOT DIE.”  (Genesis 3:1,4)

They are the kind of words that grab hold at the throat and sting going down.  We have all ingested some, and likely believed them to be true.

YOU’RE NOT GOOD ENOUGH. YOU’RE A FAILURE.  GOD IS DISAPPOINTED IN YOU.

Like Adam and Eve, we swallow the lies whole and our souls pay the ultimate price.  Shame, guilt and sin flood in, and a chasm like the Grand Canyon, forms between us and our Maker.

The heart of the Father grieves deeply.  So, He does what has never been done.  The Creator clothed himself in human flesh and spoke Himself into a broken world.word-became-flesh

What began as a humble baby cry, evolved into the long journey to mend our broken hearts. We needed more than just forgiveness. We needed healing, restoration and hope. Our Emmanuel (“God with us”) has come, and His Words change us.

“NEITHER DO I CONDEMN YOU.  GO AND SIN NO MORE!”  (John 8:11)

“STAND UP, PICK UP YOUR MAT, AND WALK!”  (John 5:8)

“LAZARUS, COME OUT!”  (John 11:43)

Dignity restored, limbs healed, the dead raised to life.  The Word had come in full power. His greatest words were still yet to come.

We desperately longed for a cure to the poison within.  The venom that seeped into our veins back in the garden, that has pulsed through our family trees ever since.  Robing us of the joy, peace and freedom we were made for.

He saved the costliest words for you and me.

“FORGIVE THEM, FOR THEY KNOW NOT WHAT THEY DO.”  (Luke 23:34)

nails and cross

A cruel cross and mocking crowd declared his love louder than words ever could.

“IT IS FINISHED.”  (John 19:30)

And with that He breathed his last.  Giving up all of His rights as Creator, King and Lord. The Word who spoke life and light into being, allowed himself to be confined to a grave.  Not for long though! We can doubt or question as much as we like, the truth remains unshaken.

“HE IS NOT HERE, HE HAS RISEN!”  (Luke 24:6)

So, sing out loud! Shout it to the rafters!  You’re free. Those words that have held you captive for decades. Those lies that have kept you bound in fear and shame. His words trump them all. Listen and hear what the King of all Kings says about you.

You were worth everything, you were loved by the King
You were worth everything,
No, there’s nothing you could bring
You were worth it all the time, I loved you all the while
Hear the angels sing
You were worth everything
